New Patients

Your first visitmade easy

We know a new dental office can feel like an unknown. Here is exactly what to expect, so nothing about your first visit is a surprise.

What to expect

  1. We start by listening

Before anything else, we ask what brought you in, what you would like to change, and what has or has not worked for you in the past.

  2. A thorough look

A comprehensive exam with digital X-rays and an oral cancer screening, so we can see the whole picture rather than one tooth at a time.

  3. Your cleaning

In most cases we clean the same day. If your gums need more attention than a routine cleaning allows, we will explain why before we begin.

  4. A plan that fits you

You leave knowing what we found, what is urgent, what can wait, and what it involves — with the most conservative option always on the table.

What to bring

  • A photo ID
  • Your dental insurance card, if you have coverage
  • A list of any medications you take
  • Recent X-rays from a previous dentist, if you have them

Common questions

How early should I arrive?

Arriving a few minutes early gives us time to get your paperwork sorted so your appointment starts on time.

Do you see children?

Yes. Caring for kids is one of Dr. Oberlander’s favorite parts of dentistry — she believes positive experiences early in life build healthy smiles that last.

I have not been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?

Not at all, and you are far from alone. We start where you are, without lectures, and work through things at a pace that feels manageable.

What if I am nervous about dental visits?

Tell us. We will explain each step before it happens, go at your pace, and stop whenever you need a moment.

What insurance do you accept?

Give us a call and we will walk through your specific plan and what it covers before you commit to anything.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We want dental care to be as easy and stress-free as possible, so we take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cash, personal checks, HSA and FSA cards, and CareCredit if you would rather spread the cost. We are happy to go through your estimated out-of-pocket cost with you before any treatment starts — just ask.

Do you handle dental emergencies?

Yes. Call us and we will do our best to get you seen quickly — we offer same-day and next-day emergency appointments when available, including same-day extractions when appropriate. If you would rather save the tooth, we can often treat the pain until root canal treatment can be completed with us or an endodontist. Either way, we will walk you through your options.

Ready when you are.

Send us a text or give us a call and we’ll find a time that fits. New patients are always welcome at Cactus Pear Dental.
